Are you living the American Dream? On one website, it states that an American Dream “is an idea which suggests that all people can succeed through hard work, and that all people have the potential to live happy, successful lives.” (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-american-dream.htm).Thurgood Marshall was living the American Dream. He was the first African American lawyer in the supreme court. In my opinion he was living the American dream, he became a lawyer even though he was African American and he was happy and successful with what he did.
Pursuing this further, Thurgood Marshall fits the definition of “American Dream” happy, successful, and hardworking. My definition of the American Dream is being able to have the opportunity to do what you want in life and live your dreams. No matter what race you are you have the chance to live your dream and be as happy and successful as anyone else. Through hard work you can be anything you want to be. Thurgood Marshall worked hard and achieved his goal of being a lawyer, and he was very successful.
Furthermore, part of the American Dream is to hold on to your dream and do everything you can to make it come true. The poem Dreams states “Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly.” ( Langston Hughes). To reach your American Dream and be happy and successful, you have to be hardworking and committed to achieving your goal. This poem means if you don't try you won't succeed.
Lastly,to me the American Dream just means that you’re happy with your life and what your doing with it. Whenever i want something i try to make it happen, even if it doesn’t i’m still happy. If i want to go visit my friend in Maryland i have to wait until a holiday and have someone drive me there. Even if she’s busy when im free i don’t get disappointed because i know its not the last i’m going to see her. Right now my American Dream is to always be happy with my friends and family.
In conclusion, anyone can have an American dream and be happy. an American Dream is achieved by being hardworking and committed. An American Dream is achieved by believing in your abilities and going after what you want. “all people have the potential to live happy, successful lives.” (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-american-dream.htm).
